Izakaya Nijumaru Restaurant

Recommended by a friend, they have quite a few shop fronts on the second storey of cuppage plaza. we were served by a very very friendly waitress, dun expect to see cute young girls dress in japanese kimono over here. the one who was serving us was a middle age auntie in t shirt and jeans and a rag in one hand. over here, if you cannot read japanese, you will need the waitress' help for ordering. they have english on the menu but it doesn't help because it's just a direct translation on how to read the japanese words.
This is the teriyaki beef set, the sauce is good, but i feel that if the beef will be nicer if it's not that well done, cos the beef seemed a little tough, probably have to let them know you want it less cooked when ordering.
I ordered this, cos i like cold soba. the tempura was good but the soba was not cold enough to be called a cold soba. you gotta call this the chilled soba. anyone have any suggestions of other nice place that servers good cold soba?
Their most recommended bento set, i forgotten the name of this but it's the first item in the menu. there's rice, miso soup, makeral fish, assorted sashimi, pork belly (very very nice), and assorted tempura. this is quite a worth it item, you get to try so many different kind of food in a set. try this item if you happen to go there. On the whole we had quite a nice time having dinner there, the place is cozy, not noisy, can sit there and have a good chat with friends, but seats are a little cramp. the waitress serving us was very friendly, but when we asked for the bill, the waitress who took the bill here gave a very black face. hhmm.. so i'm not sure of the service standard.

yosh! Soba isn't really meant to be eaten cold, just plain chilled. Shimbashi Soba at Paragon serves probably one of the best rendition in Singapore.

if you at Cuppage, you have to try good old Kazu for yakitori.
